Cruelty to cow
Dear Sir,
I witnessed an act of cruelty on an animal last week and I wanted to bring it to the public’s attention so that we can all be diligent in keeping an eye out for this type of abuse.
I was driving by Westover Farm on Monday and witnessed two gentlemen trying to drag a cow out of a field. This poor animal was obviously distressed, as were the other cows in the field. They had a rope around its neck and another around its hind quarters, and they were literally dragging it.
The cow just collapsed and these two men, who were now joined by one other, proceeded to poke it, kick it and do whatever to get it to stand again. The animal finally got up but soon collapsed again and the abuse continued.
I should have taken a video or a picture, but I did not have my phone. It has disturbed me all week and I did report it to the SPCA.
This type of abuse on an animal is just not called for. If they do this in plain sight of the public, I hate to think what goes on behind closed doors.
So the purpose of this letter is to suggest that if you happen to be driving by this farm, or any other, please pay attention and report any abuse that you may witness.
Let’s do our best to protect these animals that cannot speak for themselves.
