‘Pathways’ not about securing more votes

Dear Sir,

Jonathan Land Evans asked Michael Fahy to provide the historical evidence that, in the 1960s and 1970s, “Government manipulated immigration law to maximise votes”.

Mr Evans states that attempts by the ministry staff to locate this record have been unsuccessful.

I would encourage Mr Evans to review the Pitt and Wooding commission findings and the Clark Report. Each of these documents provides evidence of government voter manipulation.

I do not, however, feel that “Pathways to Status” falls into the category of manipulation.

It is good legislation that was presented to Bermudians in an ineffective way.

This allowed a vocal minority to redirect a policy that most Bermudians are in favour of.
