Casino would be bad for Bermuda
Dear Sir,
We have had the pleasure and pleasant memories of visiting Bermuda many times since the early 1970s and, as long as the good Lord allows, probably will continue to do so.
We have been reading in The Royal Gazette — yes, we do read it almost daily online — about the possibility of a casino coming to the island.
Having travelled to some islands in the Caribbean, seen the type of life, and crime, brought on by their casinos, we can only hope that the people of Bermuda will ensure that it doesn’t happen. As trite as it may sound, Bermuda has a special way of life and, although the financial allure of the casino may seem tempting, the lifestyle change and crime associated with such would bring Bermuda down in popularity as a vacation destination, as well as drastically change the way of life on Bermuda.
We urge the population to keep the island special and make it a place where our children and grandchildren will cherish their visits, and the local people will still cherish the unique way of life.
