Rabble-rousers must wait for General Election

Gaining momentum: about 500 BIU members and members of the general public, show their support for Tweed (Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Dear Sir,

Conservatives understandably lament what appears to be utter stupidity on the part of far too many of our ordinarily sane Bermudian workers et al, and who we all accept can be the very best in the world when not conflicted by “mind games” being played by the totally unscrupulous misdirecting them.

Said directors’ ethical motivation has tragically now very far too long departed, whereby a renewed lust for power has totally supplanted reason. Quite simply, we are regrettably attributing stupidity when in fact we should instead be fully recognising that there is a highly concerted, very intelligent, entirely focused and revolutionary effort remorselessly gaining momentum solely to depose or usurp the Government — and no matter what genuine very best efforts are evidenced in our government’s performance. This is because those in real power — ie, the unions, egged on by thankfully a minority of equally revolutionary politicians — all too certainly know that all they need to do is call upon the always, very far too many, weak-minded emotionally motivated citizens. And their names are legion, coming in all shapes, sizes, colours and religions, and are found throughout the world.

Their nefarious purpose now far too often is simply to mobilise a purportedly peaceful — aka civilly disobedient — march on the Hill. It is nevertheless always ready to beat policemen over the heads, with umbrellas or whatever other weapons are immediately available or covertly preassembled, spit in their faces, verbally attack them in any disgusting expletive-ridden way so that they can then claim “police brutality” if the police even attempt to defend themselves.

Thankfully, the very great majority of peaceful citizens know that the police are our very front line, solely intent upon safeguarding the public good in our tiny democracy via critically importantly seeking to enable due process of the law via those of our thankfully many elected representatives still selflessly willing to support law and order in hopefully balanced citizenry debate from both sides of the political spectrum. Long may they continue to govern — and whether Opposition or the Government — always providing that the rabble-rousers are most vigorously prevented from seizing power prematurely but instead forced to await the determination of a General Election. But in the immediate future at least totally prevented from closing down the Houses of Parliament, and at all costs.

With every good wish for a very far better future, and far happier new year.
