Not feeling so peachy after crop theft
Dear Sir,
I should like to congratulate the thieves who entered our property, very likely at night, and stole all the ripe and nearly ripe peaches from the tree which was given to us by family a few years ago and which was nurtured and pruned to the point that this year was the first harvest.
We did not see this coming.
You are probably the same individuals who stole all the avocados from our tree last year.
In past years, we have shared the avocados and bananas with our neighbours and they in return share with us when they have a surplus.
We intended to do the same with the peaches. Unfortunately, you have deprived them of this. So you have not just hurt us, you have hurt at least six households.
We would like you to know that my wife and I are respectively 79 and 77 years old, so this was like stealing from your grandparents, who have worked hard to bring you up — and you have disgraced them!
You would probably reply that we have a nice house and garden, and that you do not. Well, we are very conscious of homeless and poor people in Bermuda, and for many years share a substantial part of our pensions with The Salvation Army.
What have you done for your fellow Bermudians?
RON and LORRAINE LUCAS
