The Rubber Tree Vendor Market reopened for the new season on Saturday with Economy Minister Kim Wilson in attendance to mark the official launch. The market, which is held at the Rubber Tree in Warwick in the parking lot opposite Warwick Post Office and is now open from Monday to Saturday between 12pm and 6pm, provides an opportunity for vendors with peddlars’ licences to interact with customers in a family friendly environment offering food, fun and local entertainment. There are approximately 150 vendors registered with the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation and on any one day there are 20 to 30 vendors up at the Rubber Tree selling their wares.Products range from pet supplies, children’s clothing and shoes, hand-made hats and scarves, jewellery to fresh produce, homemade barbecue, baked goods and ice cream. There will be scheduled activities throughout the day including music selections from a live DJ, a fun castle and a salsa dance performance.Minister Wilson will be accompanied by Erica Smith, director of the Economic Empowerment Zones Agency, and Roxanne Christopher, business development officer and free market vendor programme manager.Ms Christopher is confident that the Rubber Tree Market will continue to be a “wonderful opportunity for small business owners to sell their wares in a community environment” and that “the BSBDC Vendor Markets showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of Bermudians in its truest form”.
