Local eatery Buzz Café now has a beach bar to add to its restaurant line up with the recent purchase of the Tobacco Bay concession stand located just outside of St. George’s.“Buzz on the Beach” is owner Holger Eiselt’s ninth Buzz location, with one shop in Dockyard, one in Paget and six in Hamilton.“I saw an opportunity and have always loved Tobacco Bay,” said Mr Eiselt, who opened the first Washington Mall Buzz in 2003. “It’s a rustic beach bar and there is no where else like it on the island. It’s a very cool, laid-back location.”Mr Eiselt purchased the shop from Stanley Harris, a commercial fisherman who now helps to supply Buzz on the Beach with fresh local fish. Mr Eiselt will also run the adjacent souvenir stand.Along with expanding the menu to include wraps, paninis and salads, they will now offer ice cream, music and a tent covering the eating area.Beach goers can also rent chairs, toys, snorkel gear and pick up sunscreen, hats and T-shirts.Since their doors opened a month ago, Mr Eiselt says they’ve had a steady flow of customers.“It’s been good considering the weather and we’re counting on a lot of tourists over the next couple of months,” he said. However, Mr Eiselt said his main focus is always on attracting local business.“Whatever we do, we are focused on locals,” he said. “They are in Bermuda 12 months of the year and appreciate good food and drinks.”Capitalising on the surrounding natural beauty, Buzz on the Beach is looking to attract the whole family.“Tobacco Bay is considered one of the best snorkelling spots in Bermuda and it’s ideal for children because the water is so shallow and calm,” said Mr Eiselt. “We’ve received tremendous support from the Corporation of St George’s to get the beach ready for the season.”Mr Einselt, who is a chef by trade, says that each of his nine locations boasts an “extensive” menu selection that has something for everyone.“We offer everything that people like to eat but with a lot of healthy alternatives,” he said which echoes Buzz’s slogan of positive thinking, healthy living.Buzz on the Beach is open from 10am to 6pm, seven days a week and Mr. Eiselt says they will be open for dinner in the near future with local fish and steaks on the menu.Starting this Friday, the beach bar is offering an alternative to the Hamilton happy hour scene with free food and discounted drinks. A shuttle bus will be leaving Hamilton at 5.30pm heading to Tobacco Bay and returning to Hamilton at 10pm.Tickets for the shuttle bus will be available at all Buzz outlets. This Saturday Buzz on the Beach will be hosting a Family Fun Day from 11am to 5pm with a bouncy castle, face painting and free ice cream for children.
