Cox sues businessman Daniels and his companies
Premier Paula Cox, in her capacity as Finance Minister, is suing businessman Steven Daniels, his wife Lejoy Marie Daniels and a number of their companies.Writs have been taken out against Mr and Mrs Daniels trading as Trinity Construction (three writs); Excellence Trucking; Basileia Asset Management Ltd; Radah Project Management; and PALMS Ltd. All of the writs were filed on Monday October 10.Mr and Mrs Daniels are also being sued by Capital G Bank Ltd over a collateral mortgage agreed between the two parties dated January 2008, according to a writ filed on behalf of the bank by Wakefield Quin on September 30.Capital G Bank has another writ out against Sovereign Flight Support Ltd, Mr Daniels, Sheldon Steede, Kenneth Burns Jr, filed by Wakefield Quin on September 29.Mr Daniels is listed as a director of Sovereign Ground Services Ltd and financed and built the private jet terminal which is believed to have cost around $1 million and had sat redundant since February 2010. Government announced in June that Universal Aviation Bermuda was set to take over and run the facility after Sovereign agreed to a $1 million settlement with the company for its long-term lease.Mr Steede is the former vice-president of Sovereign Flight Support and Mr Burns is the former president and CEO of Sovereign Flight Support Ltd the company at the centre of a big legal case which resulted in Government having to pay out $2.75 million at the end of 2009 to settle with Bermuda Aviation Services (BAS) for breaching the company’s exclusive rights to offer private jet services at the airport, which ran until 2014, after giving Sovereign permission to provide the same service.In August 2009, Government announced its decision not to renew Sovereign Group’s licence to offer private jet services due to a material breach, separate from the court ruling upholding BAS’ exclusive rights.When contacted yesterday Mr Daniels said he did not know what the writs related to.The Ministry of Finance and Capital G Bank said they would not comment on matters before the court.
