Celebrity chefs will be exposing Bermuda to some culinary delights from the US when they enter the kitchen of Polaris at the Carriage House next year.Anne Burrell, Michael Symon and Bobby Flay of the Food Network will be making the trip to Bermuda to rustle up some of their finest delicacies for visitors to popular St George’s eatery throughout 2012.The restaurant, which will be closed for renovations during January, has also got a number of special events planned for the New Year as well as completely revamping its menu to focus more on Bermudian dishes after closing its sushi operation.Owner Abdul Amjath said that among the changes would be the installation of the carriage from the carriage museum outside the restaurant in a bid to draw in the tourist crowd and an upgrade of the outdoor fittings.“Business has been great,” he said. “We had to close the sushi business because our clients were more interested in Bermudian food.“We also want to vary the menu so it isn’t the same old dishes on there while maintaining the feel of a local restaurant.“In order to do that we are planning to bring in guest chefs from the Food Network in the US next year who will be cooking with us and we will be holding a series of special events.“At the end of the day we want people to come to St George’s to experience something different.”Mr Amjath has been keen to get more Bermudians into the trade with 90 percent of his six-strong staff being local and he has been running a training programme for summer students from Clearwater Middle School for the past four years. He has also kept his prices low in an attempt to help customers struggling in the current economy with his reserve wines about $9 a glass and putting on private buffets or sit down meals for $39 and $55 per person respectively. On the first Thursday of every month the restaurant will be putting on an Indian night and in the summer there will be barbecues every Wednesday, while the outside terrace will be opened up.The restaurant will also be hosting a New Year’s Eve party complete with DJ, buffet and complimentary champagne for $68 a head. Its last codfish brunch of the season will be on Sunday January 1.The restaurant opened in March last year, having originally started life at its original location at St George’s Dinghy & Sports Club on Cut Road two years earlier.Polaris at the Carriage House closed on January 2 and reopens on February 2.For more information contact 297-0786 or 297-1730 or email info[AT]polarisrestaurant.com
