Gas is now for sale in St David’s

A former gas station in St David’s is selling fuel again.

Esso pumps switched on at the old gas station last week — and owner David Roque said local people were happy to see fuel being sold at the site again.

Mr Roque added: “It’s been received very well by the public — it’s a lot more convenient for the local community.”

He said — after the site stopped selling gas around seven years ago- that the nearest gas stations were at St George’s and Blue Hole Hill.

The one-time Esso station was taken over by the Roque family nearly three years ago and turned into a convenience store.

But Mr Roque said: “It was always part of our long-term plan to get gas in again. And it’s Esso again.”

The site has been in the family of Mr Roque’s wife Heather for more than 100 years, with previous uses including a liquor store, grocery store and a gas station.

It’s last use was as a liquor store, operated by relatives of Mrs Roque for around a quarter of a century, and gas pumps were added in the mid-1990s.

The new Esso station will be open from 6am to 10pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 8am to 5pm on Sundays and holidays.
