Realty firm founder upbeat for the long term

Ambika Scott: The founder of Moongate Realty

A new player in the real estate industry is aiming high — with ambitions of founding a family property dynasty.

Ambika Scott, 36, launched her own Moongate Realty after several years in real estate with other companies.

And now she’s looking forward to an economic recovery and better times ahead — and perhaps her 13-year-old son Tristan following in her footsteps into the firm.

Ms Scott, 36, said: “I decided I had solidified myself in the industry enough to branch out on my own.”

She added that — despite the recession and a downturn in the property market — it was a good time to start her own firm.

She said: “I was told that coming in, it would probably have its ups and downs.

“In the heyday, people were selling right, left and centre — I was told once the market was in good shape, I would be in good shape to take advantage of that.”

Ms Scott added: “The economy still has a lot of improvement to make. But when things do pick up, I will have carved out a little niche for myself.”

The mom-of-two from Warwick founded the firm last September after working for three different realtors since 2010 and passing professional exams.

She is based at her Warwick home in the meantime, but also has ambitions to open an office.

And Ms Scott said she planned to employ two part-time sales people over the next few months.

She added: “I expect the market will improve. It’s got better over the last couple of years. It’s a buyers’ market, but there is still a question of finance.

“There are plenty of people with the salaries to meet mortgage payments, but don’t have that sizeable down-payment.”

But Ms Scott said that she was optimistic about the long-term outlook for the industry.

She added: “I’d like to see the company expand, possibly have office space and continue to supply a quality service to my clients and maybe see Tristan follow me into the business.”

Ms Scott, who worked in business accounting before moving into real estate, said she was convinced she could compete with established players in the market.

She added: “I can stand on my own two feet and offer a personalised, individual service.”

And she said that social media, like Instagram and Facebook, would become increasingly important marketing tools.

Ms Scott added: “Because I’m in my 30s, I’m maybe more in tune with that than companies that have been around a lot longer.

“I find things that work and try to be innovative and think of ways to get the brand out there.”

And she said: “I don’t regret doing this — I’m very passionate about real estate. I’m good at selling and I love closing deals and finding the right property for the right client.”

Ms Scott added: “I proved myself by working for other people, so when I did branch out on my own I had achieved a level of trust from my clients.”
