Cocktail company Twisted Spoon has launched a home delivery service for the festive season.

Now mixologists Stefan Gitschner and Somers Carr will visit clients’ homes and mix fresh cocktails from a special Christmas-themed menu for self-service at parties.

Mr Gitschner said: “I thought it would be great for people to experience our cocktails and give them a taste of what we do.”

He added that the full Twisted Spoon service — where the firm caters for functions — could be expensive, but that the new self-service approach suited tighter budgets.

Mr Gitschner said: “We sell the cocktails by the gallon, which is roughly 20 to 25 drinks.

“It gives people the option to try something new and show off a bit.

“It’s a fun idea and lets people be a little bit more adventurous at parties, even if its just a small family affair.”

Mr Gitschner and business partner Somers Carr launched Twisted Spoon just five months ago and launched the new service on Wednesday.

Mr Gitschner said: “We have already had a couple of people call us.”

He added that the new business, with an emphasis on freshness and local ingredients, had done well since it opened in August.

Mr Gitschner said: “We’re doing well. It’s a fast track and it’s all baby steps for us.

“It’s a learning experience — it’s difficult at times, but it’s nice working for yourself.

“You have to be very motivated and have that driving force. It’s not for everybody.”

And he said: “The next step for us is going to be having a permanent establishment — we’re looking at opening a speakeasy.

“Bermuda needs more — we have the same bars on Front Street with the same things.

“Personally, I’d like to go somewhere and have a really well-made cocktail I’ve never heard of before.

“The Island needs an injection of something new, some young blood.

“With the America’s Cup coming and tourism on a boost, it’s time we loosened the reins and had some more fun stuff for young people to do as well.

“That’s just in the idea stage — I know there’s a lot of available space and we’d like to get people on board and have something open by summer.

“We want to have a cosy, lounged feeling to it.”

The Christmas cocktail list includes a vodka-based Christmas punch, a special bourbon and Black Seal Rum-based Twisted Spoon take on the traditional egg nog and the Jolly Folly, which includes Scotch whisky, strega and honey among the ingredients.

Mr Gitschner worked as a chef and managed restaurants in Texas and latterly worked in wine and spirits sales at drinks firm Gosling’s and was sommelier at Red steakhouse and bar on Front Street.

Mr Carr started as a waiter to earn extra cash and fell in love with the business, working in bars and restaurants around the world.
