A taste of Bermuda is now available in a specially-designed goodie bag with island flair.

Authentically Local Bermuda has launched the bags, reusable and adorned with original artwork featuring a Gombey dancer and other island images, to target the lucrative group and conference market, as well as tourists.

The bag was the brainchild of Linda Horton, of Horton’s Original Bermuda Black Rum Cake, who signed up Bruce Barritt of soft drinks firm John Barritt & Son and Norma Cross, of Outerbridge’s, which produces sherry peppers sauce and drink mixes.

Ms Horton said: “It was a great idea to be able to do a collaborative effort because there’s nowhere online that visitors or anyone else can find these products from Bermuda that are original and authentic.

“They’re perfect for people planning meetings and conferences and incentive groups coming to the island.

“There are even people from Bermuda going to conferences in Geneva and other places who want to take something representative of Bermuda — it works both ways.”

Ms Cross added the bags contained genuine island products like Barritts ginger beer, Horton’s Black Rum Cake, Outerbridge’s sherry peppers sauce and Outerbridge’s rum swizzle mix, as well as a brochure profiling the creators of the products and their history.

The products in the bag span a production history of more than 200 years.

Ms Cross said: “It’s three iconic businesses in Bermuda and we thought we could appeal to every possible area — hotels, wedding parties or events of any shape or form.”

She added: “The collection’s special packaging intensifies the experience. Authentically Local Bermuda comes in an unmistakably Bermudian reusable tote bag, itself a work of art.

“The eye-popping imagery that adorns the tote bag is original artwork, commissioned by Authentically Local Bermuda’s creators. It visually signifies all that is authentically Bermuda.”

In addition, the firm’s website features a selection of classic local recipes and their origins.

Ms Cross said: “Authentically Local Bermuda, its products, website, tote bag and brochure merge stylishly into a wonderful gift of Bermuda that visitors will use and enjoy.”

And she added that the gift bags could promote the island as a tourist destination.

Ms Cross said: “Keeping Bermuda and the Bermuda experience on the lips and minds of visitors long after the vacation is over may well encourage another visit or another conference in Bermuda.”

The firm’s website can be found at www.AuthenticallyLocalBermuda.com. The earliest delivery date is May 23.
