KPMG awards scholarships to three students
KPMG in Bermuda has awarded three scholarships to Bermudian students pursuing careers in accounting, insurance and financial services.
The firm announced that William Spriggs III received the KPMG Scholarship, valued at $30,000 annually, while Kijali Jean-Marie was awarded the Captive Scholarship, also worth up to $30,000 a year. Camaje Easton-Smith received the Artex Scholarship, valued at $15,000 annually for up to three years.
The scholarships provide financial support throughout recipients' degree programmes and include participation in KPMG's Lift Off Programme, which offers mentoring, summer internships and support towards professional qualifications. Students also have access to KPMG's Global Advantage Programme, an international leadership initiative.
Felicia Wilsen, partner and chairwoman of KPMG Bermuda's Lift Off Programme, said the awards reflected the firm's commitment to developing local talent for the island's financial services sector.
“Our scholarship offerings are an important way for us to support Bermuda's future,” she said. “We're pleased to recognise young Bermudians who are interested in building a career within the financial services industry.”
The Captive Scholarship, launched in partnership with the Bermuda Captive Network last year, is aimed at students interested in the captive insurance sector. In addition to funding, recipients gain experience through rotations in KPMG's audit, tax and advisory departments and a secondment with Park Indemnity Ltd.
Bron Turner, KPMG Bermuda partner and sector lead for captives, said growing student interest in the industry was encouraging.
“The sector remains an important part of the island's economy and global standing, and opportunities like this help create meaningful pathways for young Bermudians to learn more and build a career in the industry,” he said.
The Artex Scholarship was established to support Bermudians pursuing careers in accounting and insurance.
