Young videographers won thousands of dollars for their schools in KFC’s inaugural School Video Commercial Contest.

Students were invited from eight high schools to create original 30-, 60- or 90-second commercials promoting KFC and its products, showcasing their storytelling, filming and editing skills.

Eight submissions were received, including six entries from CedarBridge Academy and two from Mount St Agnes.

After review of all submissions by the KFC management team, prizes were awarded to the top three teams, with the money to be presented to their respective multimedia, marketing and communications departments:

• First: MSA — $4,000 — D’Angelo Williams, Jorai Laurenceo and Le-Troy Trott

• Second: CedarBridge — $3,000 — Edward Smith

• Third: CedarBridge — $2,000 — Andryah Fishington and Michaiah Bremar

KFC gift cards were presented to every student who submitted an entry in recognition of their creativity, enthusiasm and participation.

The contest was designed to encourage creativity while supporting digital media education in Bermuda’s schools.

“We were impressed by the creativity, talent and enthusiasm demonstrated by all of the students who participated,” said Ginene Haslam, general manager of KFC Bermuda.

“This competition gave students the opportunity to apply their digital media and multimedia skills in a real-world marketing project, and it was a pleasure watching and judging the submissions. We congratulate all of the students, particularly our winning teams, for their great work.”

KFC said it plans to host the contest again next year and is encouraging more schools to participate.

Ms Haslam said: “Supporting the next generation of creative professionals is something we’re excited to continue.”
