David Barbosa, Scott Barnes, and Zavier Smith all had weekends to remember in the first-ever Dockyard Karting Grand Prix.

On a new track with unknown conditions and heats deciding the main event race order, it was Barbosa, Barnes and Smith who claimed the class titles.

In the TAG class, Barbosa outduelled Stephen Corrado, while Barnes took third place.

However, Barbosa didn’t win any of the qualifying heats that were held prior to the main event, with Barnes grabbing two heat wins and Jason North another.

Barnes ruled in the 125 Shifter division, beating out Corrado and Shannon Caisey who finished second and third respectively.

Barnes helped himself to two heat wins in this class, while Corrado got the remaining one.

In the Junior Clone class, honours went to Zavier Smith who beat Blake Horseman to the finish line.

Lauryn Burgess, the lone female in the division, took third.

Horseman grabbed two wins, while eventual champion Smith also earned a heat win.

“It was a fun day for all, the weather held up and the racing was exciting, so thank you to everyone that came out and either helped, cheered the drivers on, or was competing,” said Bermuda Karting Club (BKC) presidents Barnes.

“With the club getting positive feedback from those in attendance, we will definitely be looking into making this an annual event and maybe at other venues across the Island.”
