Cargo ships arrive with fresh produce

Cargo on board: The Bermuda Islander arrived this morning (File photograph)

Container ships Oleander and Bermuda Islander arrived on the island this morning to deliver much needed supplies.

The schedules of both vessels were disrupted because of industrial action last week by dock-workers. As a result grocery stores began to run out of certain goods, particularly fresh produce, earlier this week.

The Oleander was first to arrive this morning and is now being unloaded by Hamilton Dock workers.

Bermuda Islander is also now in port, but will have to wait until tomorrow before her cargo can be brought ashore.

Stores are expecting to start refilling empty shelves this afternoon.
