No excuses for Arsenal's shocking collapse

What a week in English - football thrills and heartbreak from the best clubs in the country.Shameful Arsenal! They have no excuse for what they did, losing a 4-0 lead as Newcastle came back with four second-half goals to earn a draw. There is no way you should give up four goals after you are in such a comfortable situation and if it was any other coach than Wenger, he might have been sacked. It was unbelievable how they let all that hard work from the first half go to waste. With a lead of that magnitude, you simply have to get everyone behind the ball and defend, you don’t have to worry about going forward. Your main concern should be preserving what you have. They never did these things and were a bit frail when Abou Diaby got sent off.As a professional footballer you must keep your cool, and he didn’t.But the blame lies squarely on the team as a whole. When Diaby was shown the red card every player knew what needed to be done to get out of the match with the three points. You get paid millions of dollars to use your brain and none of them did. You have to defend, defend, defend and they didn’t do this and that’s why they gave up such a comfortable lead. What a win for Liverpool over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and to be honest, I’m not totally surprised at that result.Kenny Dalglish is a good coach, he has them playing some good football and you have to acknowledge this. It’s not rocket science as to how you win football games and Liverpool went out with a plan and executed what the coach instructed them to do and get the win.If you have two strikers up front you don’t need four defenders at the back. It was a good plan by Dalglish and Chelsea never really figured it out, hence the result.Dalglish proved on the day that he can be the person the club need to move forward and hopefully they can continue to get back to where they deserve to be which is at the top, challenging for honours.Arguably the shock of the weekend was Wolves beating Manchester United. That is a result that threw the title race wide open. But if you look at Wolves over the year, they are a workmanlike side who play for each other. This is critical and is a tribute to the coach because he has players that are willing to play for him and they have a never-say-die attitude in the camp.Their dedication to a cause is the reason they can get results like the one last Saturday.United were up and seemingly cruising but credit has to go to Wolves. People can say that United’s unbeaten run was a burden on them but Wolves worked hard, chased every ball and didn’t give any of the so called big name players any space.Let’s face it, United have been winning by the skin of their teeth. They haven’t been playing at their best and still winning so the time came for them to have to lose one and it was to the team at the bottom of the table. For my beloved West Ham, it seems to be a case of one step forward, ten steps back and every week you never know which team will show up. But the consistency better come soon before it is too late.If we continue to go this road for the remainder of the season we could be playing in the lower divisions and that would be a tragedy for the club and the fans. This is the third time we have played Birmingham and given that everyone knows we are in a relegation battle we have to start getting results. Draws don’t do it any more and we need to start looking at ourselves and asking what more can we do.We want to stay up and in order to get this everyone has to work their backsides off. Until our 11 learn this, it will be a long run-in.On a brighter note, it was good to see young Jack Wilshere get his first start for England. He is a very good young player and it was a friendly so he could go out and express himself without any pressure.Let’s hope he does well because the media out there put pressure on young players. Yes, you are playing for your country but it was a friendly, the tempo was slower and you have time on the ball.Every good player makes adjustments during a game and I don’t see why he can’t do this.
