What an excellent week of football for the England teams.Both matches, the Arsenal and the Tottenham results were excellent, although they have two different roads to the next round.For Arsenal, they got the win against the best team in the world, something that teams have been trying to do for quite some time now, and finally it looks like they can get over that hump.Looking back on the past five years, much less the history, the Londoners have had a rough go of playing against Barcelona but it seems they have closed the gap.Now they have the league coming up, they must focus on this and keeping pace with Manchester United. If they can do this then it should give them a lot of confidence that they are on the verge of something great.For them to be down a goal and come back shows a lot of people that the side have great resilience and character, especially against a team like Barcelona because it's very seldom that you get chances to come back on them like they did.The player's intentions were great in that they put high pressure on them and didn't allow them to play so deep in their half. You saw at the end of the game that Barca had a lot of the possession, but it was the belief in Arsenal to get the win and they deserved it.Hats off the Jack Wilshere on his performance in the biggest game of his career so far, he played a magnificient game and it's amazing how well he played at such a young age.Arsene Wenger wouldn't play him in these games if he felt that he wasn't ready to compete at this level and this year is his year after having a good season at Bolton. This is what happens when you loan players out to get experience.Arsenal are probably the best club for any youngster to be at at the moment.Tottenham also got an excellent result, they got what they wanted and AC Milan played pathetic to say the least.They play so slow and you can't do that against Spurs or any English team for that matter, you have all sorts of problems because the tempo in England is much greater than in Italy.Milan now must be careful on how they play at White Hart lane because they could get beat by three or four.It's tough for teams to go to Engald and if Gareth Bale plays it will be a sprint fest with him on one side and Aaron Lennon on the other.For Gennaro Gattuso, he was definitely out of order and what I would say to the player is that he was lucky that Joe Jordan wasn't playing because if he was the Joe I know would have gone right through him.When Jordan was on the pitch, which was in my day, he feared no one and this fellow got away lucky. In my day, players like John Giles and Bill Bremner along with Jordan would have gone through him and another would have finished him off.Now my West Ham are playing this weekend in the FA Cup on Monday and hopefully it would be a good break from the league fight and clear your mind.The players can go out, enjoy their football and get results because the FA is about the draw and maybe we can get a nice draw that sees us move on and give the fans something to look forward to.
