King Kenny the humble has midas touch

What a job Kenny Dalglish has done in rescuing his Liverpool’s season, no one would have thought that they would make it this far given their performances over Christmas.King Kenny has the club marching onto the next round of the Europa League and credit to him, he has done a fantastic job and I’m sure he is happy with how things are going right now.People sometimes say that because you played you can’t coach, but that is rubbish.Kenny has been around the game so long that he can’t be anything but a positive influence on the club.He has been a part of some of the best teams ever to play the game, and played under some of the best coaches in the world. That experience can’t do anything but rub off on you.If you watch him on the sideline, he still has the passion and love for his club and whenever he speaks all he says is how great of a club Liverpool is. But what impresses me the most is how he doesn’t take all the –credit. He consistently puts it on the people before him, from Bill Shankley to Roy Hodgson, and he says he has never known anything but the club winning things and being great. And to be fair, that has been all my life as well. Still, he deserves some praise. It’s not hard to go from being a player to a coach, it really is about the quality of the person and who you are going to be working with.As long as you go into the job with the right attitude and understanding of not knowing it all just because you played, then you should do just fine. It’s not an easy job, and you have to understand that just because you have a coaching badge doesn’t mean you can coach, because some of the best coaches I know don’t have coaching badges.n n nLooking at the Champions League, Manchester United and Chelsea got favourable results, and Chelsea look set to go through. For United, I think they will be happy with a goalless draw and any team going to Old Trafford looking to get a result is under real pressure. You would much rather go there with an advantage and be happy with it.United are hard to beat at home, because it’s not only the 11 players on the pitch, it is also the 70,000 plus fans coming at you as well. You have to go there, be composed in what you do, dont rush into things and you will be rewarded, you know they come out at 100mph, so you have to not get drawn into playing their game.In Chelsea’s case, they are more suited to the pace of the Champions League, which is a lot slower than the Premier League, and a lot of the English teams are showing that at the moment. In the Premier League the pace is always frantic and teams don’t allow you to play, in these types of games Chelsea are allowed to play and are given space they don’t normally have in England. Most of the teams and players the Chelsea face, in their countries have time to get the ball, spin on it two or three times and get away with it. You do that in England and you are getting kickedAlso, you have to look at the age ofChelsea’s players, they aren’t getting any younger, so when they get injuries they don’t heal like they did five, ten years ago.All of this has to be taken into consideration, which is why they will do well in the Champions League. Sometimes all you want to do is get off the pitch and get a hot bath.n n nArsenal got a good win over Stoke City to keep the pressure on United at the top of the table, although it came with a sacrifice, losing Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas. Both teams are doing well and I think the league will go down to the wire. They both still have to play each other, while United have to play Chelsea twice so it isn’t over and it can easily go either way. These games could be the deciders, and both also have to play Liverpool so it’s up in the air at the moment. If United can go get results they will win it, but if Arsenal can continue how they are at the moment then they can certainly get something from this. What hurts Arsenal sometimes is the fact that they put soo much emphasis on Fabregas that other players need to learn to step up and take pressure off of him and make it easier for the team.n n nWest Ham have had a double delight in recent times, both with the FA Cup win and the annoncement that we won the Olympic Stadium bid. It’s nice to be able to take your mind off of the league campaign and it is nice for the fans, but I’m more worried about the league and our survival than anything else.It will be tough, we have 11 games left against decent teams and it is time for us to do what has to be done to get wins. Our front line looks good now with the new guys in, but our back line still looks suspect with Matthew Upson out for the rest of the season. Hopefully we can get some help in that area.In the long run getting a new stadium will be a big thing, it will be big, brand new, but we will have to fill it.We can’t fill it playing how we are now, we have to win games, stay in the top flight and that will be the beginning. Then we can go and spend some money and bring in players to pack the stadium like the bigger clubs week in, week out.One thing about West Ham, if you start winning they will come out and watch you play. We are getting 30-40,000 fans and we aren’t winning, just imagine what would happen if we were.
