Little Belle's fascination with depositing everything in the toilet continues. If only this were a reference to successful potty training. Instead, so far, I have had to retrieve the lens cap, the car keys, the pepper grinder, a spoon and Boots the monkey. Fortunately, I found my GPS running watch clinging onto the rim for dear life before it took the plunge. Being the sentimental piece of kit that helped me achieve my first 5k and the one piece of technology I actually understand, I would have been a little upset to find it bobbing around in the bowl.

Nevertheless, despite having to don the rubber gloves yet again, nothing was putting a dampener on my mood this time last week. We'd just wrapped up the most recent Nutrifit course and finished with a really rewarding “biggest loser” weigh-in. Although many people pass through our doors that do not need to lose weight, about 70 percent have that as an objective. This time around, our top two lost 15lbs and 18.6lbs in their six weeks with us without a fad, shake, bar or ostracised food group in sight. Added to that, one of our repeat attendees is now 38lbs slimmer, all due to whole, healthy, natural food and a healthy appetite for exercise.

Nutrifit began in 2007. It's a preventive healthcare strategy designed to help address all the nutrition questions I found myself answering over and over again. During the six weeks, participants learn how to boost their energy, balance their mood, improve their digestion and buffer themselves from the effects of emotional and physical stress. We also go over other nutrition essentials such as the importance of antioxidants and the difference between good fat and bad. To top it all off, participants have the opportunity to train as a group with Sergio White, owner of Positive Results. We always have a mixed ability group there are people who have never exercised before and people who have been working out for years. There are many people who are more fit than me, which is slightly embarrassing. But we are all a work in progress and Sergio is fantastic at pushing each person to give their very best, while also respecting their limits.

Does it work? The weight loss results speak for themselves but so do the testimonials to improved energy and mood. Malicia Bremar, our most recent winner says, “My energy level has increased and I am no longer tired around 3pm in the afternoon looking for wine gums or a blueberry muffin to fill the spot.”

Malicia was a self-confessed sugar addict: “I LOVED SUGAR, I used sugar in everything. It was included in most of my recipes when cooking and desserts were my favourite time of day.” She's all set to continue too, saying, “I'm motivated to keep going, seeing the great results and knowing that I can eat healthy and still enjoy what I am eating.”
