Finding the perfect gown
F*d(1,3)*p(0,0,0,10.51,0,0,g)>or brides-to-be who are searching for designer gowns that fit their own individual taste and style, the answer might be right at their fingertips.
Finding the right bridal gown is now easier and more affordable thanks to Milika Seymour’s online bridal service.
Elegant Events offers an extensive range of wedding gowns, brides maids dresses, as well as dresses for the mother of the bride and school proms.
Mrs. Seymour, a certified wedding coordinator, has been in the bridal gown business since 1994. She started out coordinating weddings for visitors who wanted to get married on the Island. Specialising in bride’s gowns has been a profitable outgrowth as well as a satisfying experience for this young entrepreneur who has always dreamed of opening her own salon.
Since participating in last year’s bridal extravaganza at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel, Mrs. Seymour’s business has expanded.
“There is only one bridal salon in Bermuda but since retail space is so expensive I decided to start my business online.
“It has turned out to be a winner,” she stated.
Mrs. Seymour said that although trends have not changed since last year, today’s brides are looking for more elaborate colours and ornate beading as opposed to the traditional and simple styles of the past.
“The strapless look is the more popular look these days and the pinched skirt is still in but we are noticing that more celebrities are going for the bling,” said Mrs. Seymour.
Coloured embroidery, sparkling crystals, and intricate designs are more in demand by brides to be.
Designer couture is introducing more blues, silver’s, gold and platinum embroidery into the dresses giving them a more glamorous look.
Designers are inclined to use more colour like off white and diamond white as opposed to the traditional white of the past, according to Mrs. Seymour, “more brides are looking to coordinate the colour of their dress with their skin tone”.

These include gowns created by designers of the Demetrics and Landa labels.
“I find that Landa and Demetrics have a wide variety of gowns that are affordable and can be tailored to fit a variety of sizes and shapes,” elaborates Mrs. Seymour.
Mrs. Seymour has found that Bermudian consumers know what they want and are more conservative shoppers.
The website offers a more broader range of styles with prices ranging from about $750 to $5,000 and caters to the fuller figured woman.
“I’m finding that the benefit for the fuller figured women is that they can now wear the more traditional gowns. I advise my fuller figured clients not to be afraid to wear a strapless gown or a tapered dresses,” Mrs. Seymour expounds.
Mrs. Seymour explained that there is no exact formula to advising brides on their choice of gowns and that today’s brides are more expressive. “People are getting away from all the girls wearing the same style of dress these days,” she acknowledged.
Although many brides prefer all the girls to wear the same colour they do express their individuality by asking for different cuts and styles from long sleeves to strapless, short cuts and long, the dresses are more daring and the styles are definitely more unique.
Since hosting a bridal fashion show last year at the Coco Reef Resort, business has improved for Mrs. Seymour who along with Anthony’s Tuxedos is holding another fashion show this month at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel on Sunday.
