Retired Mayor Lois Perinchief threw her weight behind Mariea Caisey in last month's mayoral election. In earlier years they worked together when Ms Caisey was on the Corporation. "I felt I needed to give Mariea my support as one woman to another," she said. "St. George's can take credit for supporting and standing behind the women who have proven they are quite capable of accepting such responsibilities that at one time was thought to be beyond them.

"I also feel that Michael Jones did a good job as Mayor.

"There is much that needs to be done to keep St George's in the limelight. It is not an easy job, mainly because we are so limited with our finances. If we had other sources of revenue it would make things so much easier but we are limited.

"No matter what you try to do these days you have to have the financial backing and that is one thing St. George's does not have.

"I wish Mariea well and pray that she will get the financial support that she will need to accomplish what she sets out to do."
