Dynamo Kiev hosts Barcelona in Champions League
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- Dynamo Kiev needs to beat Barcelona on Wednesday to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stage of the Champions League from a group in which all four teams can still qualify.
Dynamo is last in Group F on five points, three behind Barcelona and one back from Inter Milan and Rubin Kazan.
Barcelona and Dynamo will both go through if the home teams win and the other two sides draw, while Barcelona needs only a draw and will only fail to advance if it loses by three goals or more combined with a win for either team in the other match.
Dynamo coach Valery Gazzayev is calling on the home supporters to make the difference in a match set to be played in freezing temperatures.
"We need the maximum support from our fans in this decisive match. The players will be doing everything to get the right result," he said.
Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is relishing the chance to finish top of the group.
"But we can't forget it's going to be a difficult game," Ibrahimovic said.
Barcelona extended its best ever league start with a 3-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday to extend its winning streak to four matches.
Lionel Messi capped his Golden Ball victory with two goals while Ibrahimovic scored for the 10th time in 12 league games. The pair have scored 22 goals in all competitions.
"The team is in good form and full of confidence," Barcelona sport director Txiki Begiristain said. "It's a very important game, the most important so far this season. Our only objective is to resolve everything in Kiev."
Dynamo struggled to beat Chornomorets Odesa 1-0 at the weekend.
Croatian midfielder Ognjen Vukojevic said his team is not afraid of Barcelona's star-studded squad.
"We understand the difficulty of our task since we are up against the world's best team, but I think we have the potential to beat them," Vukojevic said.
"We have taken five points in the toughest group in this tournament and, but for a few bits of bad luck, we would be much higher in the table. But this is no time to complain; now we have to think how to play our best football. If we do, we can reach our goal."
