Golf lessons for dad . . . with a difference

First Prev 1 2 3 Next Last
Dad and their sons and daughters can all enjoy golf lessons at Ocean View.

So your dad plays golf but always comes home complaining about his score. What he needs are some golf lessons or new clubs or perhaps both! There are quite a few professionals who give lessons at the Island’s courses. And former head of the Bermuda Professional Golf Association, Brian Morris, has also just started up some lessons with a difference.Mr Morris is offering a Walk & Talk Five Hole Evening Special at Ocean View Golf Course where one will play five holes and he will walk with you and give advice on every shot. It is a golf lesson with ‘real’ shots. You may find yourself in the rough and wonder what club to use to get out should you punch out to the middle of the fairway and what club should you use or do you try to advance it forward and what will be your chances? Mr Morris will be there to give you advice and options and to correct your stance and swing. Also you may be on a side hill. What stance should you take and what club. Those are the kind of questions that always go through a player’s mind and usually there is no one around to give you any answers except perhaps your playing partner who is possibly a worse player than you!Mr Morris said: “This is a walking lesson and I try and combine everything into one driving, fairway irons, chipping, putting. It is all done in a real situation. On the range you always have a flat lie! This is something a little different. I am just starting it for the summer and a dad can perhaps bring his son or daughter along or even the whole family and have lessons. It is something they will enjoy because it is not just standing there hitting balls on the range. It is just like you are playing with someone I am like the caddy I will give advice on every shot.”The Five Hole Special costs $50 person (if you have your own clubs etc) and $68 (if you do not have any equipment). Mr Morris can be reached at 505 2599.Mr Morris also gives private lessons as well as does Ocean View pro Quinn Talbot who has taught everyone from Bermuda’s rising golf stars to seniors.Mr Talbot is a two-time winner of the World One-Arm Golf Championships. An amputee, Mr Talbot adds a different dimension to the term ‘golf handicap’.But watch him crunch another precision-hit drive down the centre of the fairway, it’s hard to believe he’s hindered by a disability that would dissuade most from even attempting to swing a golf club. Not only does Mr Talbot play the game, he plays it well . . . and he teaches it very well as many of his students have found out.Mr Talbot first lifted the One-Arm World Golf Championship in 1988.For more information on lessons at Ocean View call 295 909⅔ or go to www.oceanviewgolf.bm
