Mapi engines great for your punt or dinghy

Scott Johnson of Waters Edge Marine said they specialise in the small engine department and are the distributors of Mapi outboards.
He said: “A lot of people today have runabouts, punts and dinghies and they use small engines. Most people today do not row their punts and dinghies they prefer a small engine on the back and also kids like to go out in their dinghies and use small engines.
“The Mapi outboards are great for kids to use. We are seeing more people today using small boats the small engine market is bigger than the market for the big engines. Also you are seeing more and more inflatable boats these days and they take small engines. The Mapi has a range of four-stroke engines from 2.6 hp to 25 hp.”
Mr Johnson explained that the four-stroke engine is a lot quieter than the two-stroke and is more economical on fuel.
“Also four-stroke engines last a lot longer than two-stroke engines and they are better for the environment. They are a greener engine.”
Waters Edge Marine provides full service for the Mapi engine but also for the Mercury and Yamaha brands as well.
“We service engines, do trailering, shrink wrapping and we have just started getting into steam cleaning engines. We have been doing that for about three months now and it is working out very well.”
Mr Johnson said that with summer approaching people will start putting over their boats and it is important that they get their engines serviced and cleaned.
“The engines need cleaning because the salt builds up around them, especially in this environment. The owners who have had their engines steam cleaned can’t believe the results. They can’t believe it is the same engine when we are through. We wash all that salt off and stop the corrosion. That causes half the problems in Bermuda. It is important to have preventative maintenance. If you clean your engine once a year it will last a lot longer. I have seen engines which are regularly maintained and cleaned last 12 to 14 years. It is just like having a check up for yourself pay now or pay later.”
