BSX week in review

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index gained 14.04 points to close at 2,270.75 last week as trading volumes improved on recent weeks.

Leading the way was the Bank of Bermuda which closed up 50 cents or 1.59 percent at $32 on volume of 2,910 shares.

Bank of Butterfield also gained ground on heavy volume of 48,916 shares, closing up five cents at $32.

Insurer BF&M gained ground, closing up 25 cents or 2.44 percent at $10.50.

After the Bank of Butterfield, Bermuda Container Line saw the heaviest trading, with 40,100 shares trading. The ship owner closed down 50 cents or 6.25 percent at $7.50.

Trading in utilities was also active, with Belco up 25 cents to $31, KeyTech down 45 cents to $9.95 and KeyTech preference shares up 25 cents to $11.25.

A total of 115,873 shares worth $2,192,939 traded.
