A chart and news report in the business section of last Friday's Royal Gazette mistakenly listed Allied World Assurance Company (AWAC) and IPC Holdings as captive insurers domiciled in Ireland. The information was according to the Industrial Development Agency (IDA) of Ireland. The name of AWAC's operating subsidiary company in Ireland is Allied World Assurance Company (Europe) Limited and is not a captive in structure but holds an insurance license from the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority. The company said it is also not administered by AIG Insurance Management Services (Ireland) Ltd. as reported in the chart. IPC Re Europe, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bermuda-based IPC Re, is based in Dublin and licensed to write business throughout the European Union. The company said IPC Re Europe was not set up as a captive or to provide (re)insurance to its parent company, but was in the business of writing third party reinsurance.
