Drivers and riders may soon be able to stop for a drink and a snack along East Broadway.

The Holmes, Williams & Purvey (HWP) Cycle Showroom there may soon be no more as the Shell Gas Station is planning to renovate the building into a convenience store similar to the Esso Tigermarts.

Oil productions manager for Shell, David Rose, said the company was still waiting for planning permission but hoped to begin work as soon as such permission was received, expected to be within a few months.

"The purpose is to expand our offering to the public," he said.

"We want to upgrade ... we feel we could offer the public more."

"It will be similar to Tigermart but with a Shell-designed template," he continued.

"The intention is to have prepared fast food and convenience items."

Whether the store would be open 24-7 had not yet been decided, he added.

A spokesperson from HWP said the group had been made aware of the proposal and recognised the renovations would not be happening anytime soon.

Shell will also be expanding their Blue Hole Hill gas station.

Having completed renovations on the outer area of the Blue Hole location two years ago, Mr. Rose said Shell planned to expand the small convenience store there now.

"We want to make it more modern," he explained.

"We're just being able to serve the public more."
