Government will soon be seeking ideas to help promote Bermuda's ".bm." domain internationally.

The move follows work done by Government's "top level domain committee" to improve service and reliability.

Telecommunications Minister Renee Webb announced that as of next week hosting of .bm. would transfer from Logic Communications to a consortium of Government, TeleBermuda International and Cable & Wireless.

"These arrangements will improve the reliability of the domain through the introduction of redundant servers and improve the service to customers through the introduction of updated software," she said. Ms Webb said the changeover would not alter connectivity of customers but admitted it could cause delays in the first "few days" to those changing their domain names or in applications for new names.

Ms Webb also said that the "top level domain committee" would be holding a seminar later in the month "to discuss the operation and management of the .bm. domain and also ideas for promoting it internationally."

Those interested in attending the seminar should contact Nigel Hickson at email nhicksongov.bm.
