Insurance giant gives interns world of Disney experience

A weeklong trip to DisneyWorld's Magic Kingdom is not exactly how student accounting interns expect to gain work experience, but for Kondwani Williams and Chantelle Lowe, "Discovering the Magic" was just the ticket to spark interest in a diversified business career.

"My week at Disney was fun, but it also provided me with a broader perspective and insights into the business world," said Mr. Williams.

He added: "My experiences there, and as a summer intern for PricewaterhouseCoopers have helped to prepare me as I work to complete my degree and begin to focus on career opportunities."

"It was a fun action-packed week," said Ms Lowe. "Besides meeting a lot of interesting people, we attended lectures and work group sessions hosted by incredible speakers which focused on a wide range of business concepts and issues. It was a great experience."

It was the Bermuda firm's first year participating in the programme and the two student interns were chosen after they joined 1,200 other interns from PricewaterhouseCoopers offices from around the world to present their ideas for a Disney World theme park with PricewaterhouseCoopers as the theme.

The "Discover the magic" Internship Development Programme is a joint programme between Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Disney Institute and students are invited to spend a week at Disney's premier location, the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and participate in activities geared specifically to PricewaterhouseCoopers innovative environment.

Students also participate in team building exercises, hands on business sessions and personal development sessions at the Disney Institute.

"The programme is a tremendous networking and career development opportunity for our interns," said Maureen Nusum, manager of human resources at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

"They are able to interact with business leaders from Disney and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The interns gain insight into the value of creating a culture of excellence, providing exceptional client service and generally what makes our firm unique," she said.

Chantelle Lowe is completing her summer programme with PricewaterhouseCoopers and will return to Acadia University in Nova Scotia for the final year of her undergraduate studies majoring in business administration and accounting.

Kondwani Williams has completed his summer internship and is back at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he is an economics major in his third year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is the world largest professional services organisation with more than 150,000 people in 150 countries helping clients solve complex business problems, enhance their ability to build value, manage risk, and improve performance in an Internet-enabled world.
