Insurers drive down BSX for week

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index fell 23.629 points last week to close at 4,372.79

During an active week of trading Bermuda Commercial Bank led the advances, gaining 70 cents to close at $8.25 as investors traded in 200 shares.

Butterfield Bank rose 25 cents to close at $55.75 on volume of 15,732 shares and Bermuda Aviation Services also rose 25 cents to close at $6.25 as 1,800 shares changed hands.

However, declines in insurers BF&M and Argus of 5.08 percent and 6.75 percent offset the gains.

BF&M fell $1.25 to close at $17.25 on volume of 830 shares, Argus fell 75 cents to close at $14 on volume of 6,860 shares and Belco lost 50 cents to close at $38.50.

While no other issues changed price Devonshire Industries traded in 700 shares to close unchanged at $14.95, Kentucky Fried Chicken traded in 100 shares to remain unchanged at $6.

The total value of the shares bought and sold on the BSX last week was $1,093,988.50. and the overall volume of shares was 28,452.
