Patrice Hayward and her husband Leroy Hayward have opened Craft Effects, a craft supply and design business specialising in making custom made memory books for all occasions.

Memory books or scrap books are designed to contain photographic memorabilia of special occasions, either of weddings, births, or any other special event.

"I like crafts and last year my step-daughter was pregnant and I thought a memory book would be a nice gift for my daughter, so we put together a quick scrap book together for her," Mrs. Hayward said.

"I also did one for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary covering their childhood, travel and other family members."

The book for her stepdaughter included photographs of her step-daughter as a baby, being pregnant, the baby shower and will eventually include locks of hair of the new-born.

As an author and playwright Mrs Hayward has a flair for creation and after seeing a television show on the art of making scrap books she decided to pursue this as a business and offer supplies to people who want to build their own scrap books.

"With digital cameras people are taking lots of pictures but they may get damaged, a memory book is not only a way of preserving pictures but enhancing them with different materials and embellishments."

Mrs Hayward said she can put together a scrap book for someone's life time, family tree, vacation, specific event in a variety of sizes.

She and her husband attended a craft and hobby association trade show in January in Las Vegas, featuring many craft associations and 11,000 vendors, the majority specialising in scrap booking.

After returning to Island they opened Craft Effects in February operating from their home where Mr. Hayward assists in creating the layout for the books or albums

"The layout is what moves people, anybody can put pictures in an album, but the layout, the colours, design and they way they are arranged are important," Mrs. Hayward said.

Apart from memory books, Craft Effects offers gift baskets, stamped greeting cards, gift supplies, and favour books.
