TyCom opens new facility in New Jersey
Bermuda-based TyCom Ltd., the industry's only builder and owner of undersea optical networks, has announced the opening of its Global Network Management Centre (NMC) in Wall Township, New Jersey.
The company said the new facility serves as the nerve centre for the TyCom Global Network (TGN) and monitors all world-wide traffic carried on the network. TyCom also announced that it has added Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt to the existing transatlantic ring connecting New York and London. TyCom Transatlantic was placed into service in June, one month ahead of schedule, and is now carrying commercial traffic, the company said.
"The completion of TyCom Transatlantic and the addition of these major European cities is another significant milestone in our plan to install and operate the world's most advanced undersea network," said Neil Garvey, president and CEO of TyCom. "Not only have we delivered on the promise we made last January, we have completed the work ahead of schedule and under budget. This success demonstrates our commitment to execution and on-time deployment and the reliability that we offer our customers."
The Wall Township Network Management Centre is a 90,000 square-foot building with nearly 40 employees responsible for 24-hour network monitoring and management. The NMC also serves as a cable station facility, housing extensive cabling and transmission equipment and offering a range of collocation services. In its unique capacity as a combination NMC and cable station, the facility will handle transatlantic traffic and be the gateway to the company's TelExchange Centre in New York City.
