All About Eve clothes shop tips its hat to Island's livery cycle history

A love for motorcycles inspired Denise Trew to open her very own women's boutique called All About Eve.

The connection may not seem obvious at first, but having worked with her late husband Robert buying and selling motorbikes at Eve's Cycles and travelled the world, Ms. Trew then decided to go into business herself and launch the new shop, which was officially unveiled to the Mayor of St. George's, Mariea Caisey, and the general public on Saturday.

The boutique, which is located in York Street, right in the heart of the old town of St. George's, stocks everything from clothes and boots to jewellery and other fashion accessories.

Ms. Trew, who hails from Warwick, explained how it all came about when she came up with the name for the boutique.

"I had been selling and buying motorcycles for 30 years and I travelled the world," she said.

"I was just renovating this building and by the time I finished I decided to open a boutique.

"There were no shops like this in the town here. So, I really want to give St.George's a different flavour by doing this."

Ever the globetrotter, Ms. Trew went around the world, sourcing clothing suppliers from Italy, Dubai and Mexico to name but a few countries, over the past six months, before hitting on the title for her new enterprise - All About Eve.

"I just decided to call it All About Eve, because Eve Cycles, which is one of the oldest motorcycle liveries in Bermuda, used to be run by my late husband Robert for many years," she said.

"So, this was a little bit of me in the shop and it is also my nickname."

The shop was actually opened back in September, but the cutting of the ribbon by the Mayor had to be delayed because of bad weather, before an official launch party on Saturday had fellow local business people, patrons and customers queuing up at the door, according to Ms. Trew.

"Basically, we just wanted to let people know we are here and we have a lot of surprises awaiting people in the shop," she said.

"The feedback from customers has been great - I have had some customers staying at St. George's Club and they said it was a most impressive shop.

"It is all about just coming in and having a look around and finding something suitable for yourself.

"For me, it is a really fun job and a great atmosphere to work in - the building is very old and it is nice to see all of the early architecture it is comprised of."

Ms. Trew does all the selection and buying of goods, while she has two staff running the boutique.

Among some of the merchandise on offer are leather and suede jackets, coats and designer leather belts from Italy and leather gloves, as well as gift items, and there are even two pink motorcycles on display to maintain the biking theme throughout the shop.

"We do completely different things and, as a matter of fact, I think we give the shops in Hamilton a run for their money," she said.

"There is a full selection of items available and it offers something unique and individual to suit a person's style.

"Since Bermudians do a lot of shopping now in the Internet, when they come to a shop they like to see something they have not seen before and because I have travelled a lot around the world to buy goods, there are a lot of different things.

"For those who like jeans, we have designer jeans, hand decorated in Italy, and for the more conservative person we have the trendy suede and leather jackets.

"The latest trends in shops are always changing and most people who know me, know I like clothes and they always ask me where did you buy this or that and can you buy one for me and that is why I called it All About Eve."
