ACE CFO hoping to jazz it up in UK

this new musical extravaganza, made up of some of the Island's best musicians, will not be based in Hamilton, St. George's or Dockyard, but in London.

That is because David Skinner, the new chief financial officer of ACE Europe who has been promoted to a new position in London, is hoping to get some of Bermuda's greats together on the other side of the Atlantic.

Mr. Skinner is a chartered accountant by day, but at night he transforms into a jazz musician who has been known to jam all over the Island with the Tom Ray Band. He has even cut an album.

In London he hopes to meet up with some Bermuda jazz greats, offering his talents on his jazz guitar to form a quartet.

Andrew Chamberlain, a big-time jazz pianist, Alan Ganley, the former band-leader at the Hamilton Princess and Andy Newmark, the former drummer of Roxy Music who is currently playing in the orchestra for the musical `The Lion King', all now live in London.

"It would be great,'' said Mr. Skinner. "At first I thought I would just go to some jazz clubs, but then there are a quite a few Bermudians in the city.'' He added: "My first priority is my work responsibility, but if a chance comes up to play, I will always be game for that.'' A graduate of Saltus and Mount St. Agnes and resident of Hungry Bay in Paget, Mr. Skinner became a chartered accountant in 1979. He has since worked in Coopers & Lines, then the Bank of Butterfield before moving to ACE as a consultant three years ago.

But there was so much work to be done as the ACE empire grew, that he became an indispensable cog in the operation.

ACE exec is on the move "My job developed as ACE grew and there were more and more things that needed to get done. And as there was no-one in the office with time to do the development role, I began to take on more projects.'' He was in charge of primary development and the business and budgetary planning for the whole ACE group.

His hard work was noticed, and last month it was announced that Mr. Skinner had been promoted to the Europe office.

He will be travelling with his Bermudian wife, Dianne, and his three children Robyn, 21, Michelle, 18, and Michael, will stay at school in North America.

He said: "I am thrilled to take the job. It is both an exciting local and an exciting position. It is a fantastic opportunity for me, for my family, and hopefully for ACE.'' Financial tuning: David Skinner ENTERTAINMENT ENT
