Dockyard gets train service

General manager of Oleander Cycles Geoffrey Gibbons yesterday confirmed that a "train service'' will be launched in Dockyard by the end of the year.

The Bermuda Train Company Ltd., a locally-owned firm, is bringing in a a bright red replica Baldwin Locomotive complete with cow catcher and whistle along with two passenger trailers.

The Bermuda Train Co. along with the West End Development Corporation have reached an agreement on a route for the train which will travel through Dockyard daily.

Mr. Gibbons added that the train service would not require tracks, bridges nor tunnels since the train will have standard road tires.

Each aluminium trailer will accommodate 20 people, and will be driven by a conductor and a driver.

Mr. Gibbons added that he expected the train will be up and running by the end of this year at the latest.

Wedco general manager George Smith yesterday told The Royal Gazette he was excited about the new train service.

"It will provide short-run transportation,'' Mr. Smith said. "It will run from the cruise ships, around the yard to the gate.''
