Holmes, Williams and Purvey had its in principle application to renovate the building and site approved by the Development Applications Board recently.

HWP's general manager of their electrical division, Jonathan Brewin, told The Royal Gazette yesterday the company was planning to consolidate its entire electrical business in the 20,000 square foot building.

This would see the stock and staff at the two shops the company ran at Phillips House and on Front Street being transferred to the one area.

He said the company had looked at US facilities to see the benefits consolidation offered.

It meant a wider range of appliances and parts and service could be offered together with the warehouse upstairs.

The plans for the building were to be submitted on Monday, he continued, and the work would go out to tender shortly after.

If all went well then the new facility would open its doors on July 1.

The board noted in its minutes that it "reserves for its final approval all details, defined as reserved matters, relating to design and external appearance of the building and landscaping of the site''.
