New massage therapy helps relieve tension

Relieving tension has become a necessary part of the working person's life in Bermuda. Various techniques from meditation, to rigorous exercise are on the rise with a growing number of the population.

Massage therapist Jennifer Constable has introduced a new form of therapy with the opening of her new business last month. Using a technique she recently learned, Ms Constable offers Thai massage treatments at the Contrology Centre in Warwick.

"I have been a massage therapist for eight years,'' she said, "but after I had a Thai massage I said to myself `that's it, I'm learning this and I'm never doing Swedish massage again'.'' Ms Constable had her memorable experience over three years ago while on vacation in Thailand.

"It was not like anything I had ever had before,'' she said.

The technique does not involve the use of any oils or lotions and the client is fully clothed for the entire treatment.

"It is a form of assisted yoga and involves a lot of stretches,'' said Ms Constable. "Many people say they actually get more of a stretch doing it this way than trying to do it themselves.

"And unlike many other forms of massage which tend to make people feel like going to sleep, most people say the Thai massage leaves them feeling more energised and alert.'' Ms Constable offers a one and a half hour session for $90 and said she recommends most of her clients to have the treatment once every two weeks.

"I do offer a special rate to my regular customers,'' she said.

And no one is too young or too old to take advantage of the tension relieving technique.

"it is really suitable for any age my youngest client so far has been a six-year-old and my oldest, a 79-year-old,'' she said.
