opening up a potentially lucrative new tourist market.

Tourism Minister David Dodwell has been locked in talks with American Airlines over the possibility of starting the route for the first time.

And he says he has received "positive vibrations'' from the airline, although it has not yet made a final decision.

According to Mr. Dodwell, Miami Airport feeds 27 flights from South America which could be tapped for new tourists.

He said if the new route was set up, a marketing office could also be established to build up business in the south and south-west of America.

"I had the opportunity to meet American Airlines with regard to starting a service to Miami for the first time. They gave me very positive vibrations.

"There is not an answer yet, but I feel we are closer than ever to securing that particular flight,'' said the Minister.

"Miami feeds 27 flights from South America and we could tap into South American countries. They are looking for new holiday destinations.

"One of the things we will have to come up with is a significant investment to support this particular flight and we will extol the virtues of the service by having a sales presence in Miami.'' In addition to the possible Miami link, British Airways has announced it is putting on a fourth flight to the Island, Midway Airlines is to operate a new flight next year and Kiwi International Airlines has signed up for 1996.
