basking in the glow that comes with success.

Mrs. Saltus, the former front office supervisor and trainer, has been promoted to reservations and front office manager.

She joined the hotel in January, 1982 and has worked at the property for the last 16 years.

In addition to ensuring that the front office runs smoothly, Mrs. Saltus also supervised Bermuda College students who were enrolled in the front office course at the Bermuda College.

"I have seen the number of students dwindle over the years,'' she said. "I would like to see more young people drawn to this industry because it is interesting and there is an amazing diversity of people that you can meet.

"Tourism is a worldwide business and you can be sure that people from all over the world will be stopping by little Stonington.'' Mrs. Saltus will not give up her training job with her new promotion. Instead, she will add it to her wider list of duties as the reservations and front office manager.

Her responsibilities include working with wholesalers, travel agents and guests.

"I've been here so long. I am happy for the opportunity to be able to reach this level,'' the Bermuda Hotel and Catering College graduate added.

"It just enhances my feeling of self worth and belief in myself to know that management think this way about me.'' Meanwhile, Carol Tavares, 25, who worked under Mrs. Saltus as a Bermuda College student a few years ago, has been elevated from reservations secretary to administrative assistant to Stonington Beach Hotel's general manager Edmund Tucker.

"I enjoy clerical work and my responsibilities will be for all Mr. Tucker's correspondence,'' she explained. "From typing to filing to Federal Express.

"It will definitely be a challenge. I was surprised when I heard that I had been promoted because I knew Mr. Tucker was looking for someone but I didn't apply.

"I told him that I was interested and he told me I had been selected. I couldn't have been happier.'' Mr. Tucker said both women's dedication to hotel guests and the care they have shown in their work were the major factors in his decision.

"In June's case she has shown 16 years dedication to the business. She knows all the guests, having been in her position for as long as she has.

"I felt it was time for her to use all the experience she has gained in that time to bring the business to a new era.

"Carol is a youthful graduate and she has sat in her position in reservations for a long time. She has gained experience and I felt it was time for her to move onto bigger and better things.'' PROMOTED -- Stonington Beach Hotel employees June Saltus (left) and Carol Tavares (right).
