Cayman Airways plans to eliminate four Miami flights and trim its fleet to two planes on July 31, according to a report in Travel Weekly.

The Government-owned carrier will also chop 80 jobs and end its service to the Turks and Caicos, the report said.

Managing director Mr. Ray Wilson said the changes would save Cayman Airways about $8 million a year and make it more competitive with large US airlines serving Grand Cayman.

The airline now uses five leased aircraft, but will get by with two through more effective scheduling, he said.

The carrier plans to maintain 14 round trips a week on its Miami route. In April, Cayman Airways killed its New York/Baltimore service, claiming losses of $200 per passenger on the route in 1992.

In 1992, Cayman lost $9.7 million on revenues of $44 million. That was an improvement over a $12-million loss in 1991.
