CEOs to speak at congress

reinsurance congress will highlight how CEOs see the market and give an update on the evolution of Lloyd's of London.

Other themes include the strengthening of capital as well as governments' role in catastrophe reinsurance.

Seminar coordinator Tawnee Hazelwood said yesterday the tenth International Reinsurance Congress Bermuda 1996, to be held at the Princess Hotel, will likely draw 200 to 250 people.

Last year, the conference attracted just under 200 people, including delegates and presenters, said Ms Hazelwood.

The three-day conference commences on Wednesday, October 16 at 2 p.m. with Coopers & Lybrand partner Ray Madeiros introducing Premier David Saul who will deliver the opening address.

On day one, Mid Ocean Ltd. CEO Michael Butt and Terra Nova (Bermuda) Holdings Ltd. chairman William Bailey are slated to provide perspectives on how the industry has progressed. The first day's schedule also includes Equitas chief executive Michael Crall and Lloyd's of London head of strategy Nick Prettjohn as presenters.

Day two's slate includes an update on insolvencies and a presentation on corporate restructuring. A presentation on allocating pollution and mass tort losses as well as a panel discussion on current legal issues are also slated for day two. Robin Mayor of Conyers, Dill & Pearman is to moderate the latter.

Topics for the final day include; an equity analyst view of the marketplace, the strengthening of capital through mergers, acquisitions and capital raising as well as alternatives to traditional reinsurance and government's role in catastrophe reinsurance.

Friday's schedule also includes presentations on the changing role of the intermediary and future challenges for risk managers.

The congress concludes with a gala dinner, added this year to mark the tenth congress, hosted by Coopers & Lybrand and Hawksmere at the Cafe Lido Restaurant.
