The 77,000-ton cargo ship weighed anchor three miles off shore St. David's and was en route from Monkstaad, Norway to Corpus Christy, Texas.
Details surrounding the death of 32-year-old Francisco Delapena were unavailable, but it is understood that he was a Filipino national.
He is currently being held at the morgue at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and an autopsy will be performed before Mr. Delapena's body is flown home.
In other shipping news, the cruise ship Norwegian Crown made its first appearance for the season yesterday.
A spokesman for Meyer Agencies said 1,006 passengers were on board and the ship is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral, Florida this afternoon.

The Oleander left Bermuda on Monday.
The car ship Century Leader had a brief layover on Saturday en route to Nassau, Bahamas.
And the Bermuda Islander sailed into Bermuda with 120 containers, including 16 refrigerated.
