commissioned to organise one function for BCB in Chicago recently, does not represent the bank in "any capacity whatsoever'', as reported in a story on Monday.
Law firm Milligan-Whyte & Smith and Bermuda Commercial Bank represented Bermuda at a financial services conference in Chicago earlier this month.
The conference was sponsored by the Chicago-Kent College of Law. A Futures Trade Expo, visited by more than 3,400, was also held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel in Chicago during the same period.
Senior partner at Milligan-Whyte & Smith, Mrs. Lynda Milligan-Whyte, spoke on the regulatory environment in Bermuda for international companies. She highlighted the development of the Bermuda Stock Exchange and Bermuda's financial services sector.
Ms Audette Exel, acting managing director of Bermuda Commercial Bank (BCB), spoke on the corporate structures available to the international community when using Bermuda as an off-shore centre. She explained how the new management at BCB will service international business.
One attendee, Mr. Neil Alton of the UK Department of Trade and Industry said: "Bermuda's emphasis on regulation and enforcement is very impressive and the regulatory environment encourages and attracts business, making it all the more impressive. The other attraction is the outstanding quality of expertise available in Bermuda, which has a strong appeal to a London financial service supplier''.
The Whitfield Group, a local marketing and promotions agency, has been hired by BCB to promote the jurisdiction. The company's president Ms Suzie McKeegan said her brief is to market Bermuda as an offshore domicile, rather than solely publicise the bank.
