Exel named a `Global Leader for Tomorrow'
"Global Leader for Tomorrow'' by the organisers of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Ms Exel, one of 100 new honorary group members, will be with the Bermuda delegation attending the 1995 Annual World Economic Forum which begins on January 26 in Davos, Switzerland.
"I am extremely pleased and honoured to have been selected as a member of this prestigious group and I am looking forward to joining the Bermuda delegation in Davos,'' said Ms Exel.
Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul said: "On behalf of Government and the other members of the delegation, I would like to congratulate Ms Exel on her membership in a very dynamic global network.
"We in Bemruda recognise her tremendous professional contribution, not only to the Bermuda Commercial Bank, but also to our international business industry as a whole.'' Members of Global Leaders of Tomorrow include business, politics, media, arts, and science representatives.
Two hundred GLT members were recognised when the programme was introduced in 1992 and each year 100 news members are announced.
The group meets several times yearly in Switzerland and has identified a number of global initiatives for focus and action.
Prime Minister Bhutto of Pakistan, Prime Minister Aho of Finland, business tycoon Mr. Bill Gates, US presidential advisor Mr. George Stephanopolous, are among the GLT membership.
The selection committee includes; former Prime Minister of France, Raymond Barre, Lord Menuhin, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, and the past chairman and organiser of the Earth Summit, Mr. Maurice Strong.
Ms Milligan-Whyte will appear as a panelist with Mr. Richard Bartlett, vice chairman of Mary Kay Corp. USA, and Ms Julia te Velde, director of Boer and Croon in the Netherlands, in a forum briefing session entitled, How personal values of corporate leaders contribute to successful strategies, Dr. Saul will be heading the Island's 1995 delegation which includes Mr. Kit Astwood, president and CEO of Atlantic Investment Development Company, Mr. Michael Butt, president and CEO of Mid Ocean Reinsurance, Senator Ms Lynda Milligan-Whyte, partner at Milligan-Whyte & Associates, and Mr. Brian O'Hara, president and CEO of EXEL Ltd., as well as Ms Exel.
"Each year we have participated in this gathering and have returned to Bermuda with new contacts and new business opportunities for our international business industry,'' said Dr. Saul.
Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan, Mr. Charles Vaughan-Johnson, president and CEO of the Bank of Bermuda, and Mr. Michael Collier, president and COO of the Bank of Butterfield, will not be able to attend, according to the release.
On Friday, January, 27, the Bermuda delegation will host a private dinner at the Hotel Schwietzerhof, to feature four prominent international business speakers; Ms Wendy McDonald, chairman of B.C.. Bearings Engineers Ltd., Canada, Mr. H. Onno Ruding, vice chairman, Citicorp International, USA/Netherlands, Mr. C.M.L. Savage, with the Tongaat-Hulett Group, South Africa, and Dr. Rene Zund, senior executive with Coutts & Company, Switzerland.
