ICSA to host two-part seminar

Administrators (ICSA) in Canada host a two-part breakfast seminar starting this month on financial statement analysis for non-financial employees.

The course will be conducted by Mr. Jamsheed Khan, an experienced Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Secretary. Mr. Khan has had much experience teaching at the university/college level and is a senior grader of the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts.

Mr. Richard Jenkyn of ICSA said: "It is important because we are trying to increase membership. ICSA is an important qualification for Bermuda because of the exempted and local companies that are here.

"The seminar assists people in interpreting financial statements and it is an important part of a professional qualification for bankers, chartered accountants and chartered secretaries and a number of other professions.'' Part one of the course will be held on Thursday, February 23, to consider how financial statements are developed and how to understand them. Exercises will be used to help participants appreciate the relationships in these statements.

The course will examine a number of aspects of balance sheets, income statements and retained earnings.

They include assets, liabilities, shareholders' equity, sales/revenue, cost of sales, expenses, profits, auditor's report and use of retained earnings.

Part two will help the participants consider the application of financial analysis including financial goals, forms of ownership, projected financial statements, statements of changes in financial position and financial ratio analysis.

Part two is scheduled for Thursday, March 9. Both parts will be held at the Bermuda Insurance Institute in Hamilton and interested parties can register through Windcrest Management Ltd.

Breakfast will be available at 7.30 a.m. with the course starting at 8 a.m. on each day. The cost of the two-part seminar is $130 for ICSA members and $150 for non members.
