The Lili Marleen was delayed by engine repairs while in the Caribbean.

It was supposed to arrive on Monday and stay until tomorrow at Penno's Wharf.

The Lili Marleen was carrying approximately 55 passengers.

The news -- revealed yesterday by Meyer Agencies Ltd. president Henry Hayward -- is yet another blow the Island's cruise market has received this year.

Bermuda's first scheduled caller, the Black Watch , was forced to pull out of its visit -- which would have kicked the season off -- also because of engine problems.

The Lili Marleen visited Bermuda last year and this year's trip was scheduled to fall while the vessel was en route from St. Maarten to Horta in the Azores.

Tourism Minister David Dodwell remained upbeat about the situation, saying: "These things happen. It was a one-off ship which had an engine breakdown.

You can't foresee something like this.

"I am sorry to see it because any loss has an impact on the Island. This trip was a bonus however as normally we don't see any ships here in March.'' Now the Island will have to wait until tomorrow for this year's first cruise ship visitor, the Seabourn Pride .
