CREWMAN AIRLIFTED SEA Crewman airlifted A crew member suffering from severe stomach pains was airlifted from a Liberian-registered tanker on Thursday evening, Harbour Radio reported.

The 56-year-old Filipino was landed by US Naval helicopter at the Prospect Police field at about 5 p.m. and taken to hospital where he was in stable condition.

He was on board the Golar Liv , which was 300 miles north-northwest of Bermuda and enroute from Philadelphia to Angola.

DRINK-DRIVERS DOWN POL Drink-divers down Police reported a decline in the number of impaired driving arrests made during June, compared with the same month last year.

There were 21 people arrested during the month, compared with 39 people in June, 1991.

Six of the 21 passed the alco-analyser test, 10 failed and five refused to take it.

The youngest person arrested was 19 years old, while the oldest was 65.

Police said there was also a decrease in the number of impaired drivers involved in accidents to four last month, from 12 in June last year.

ROAD MISHAPS DIP AC Road mishaps dip The number of traffic accidents is on the decline, according to Police.

And while inattention has been the main cause of traffic accidents in previous months, Police found that inexperience was the main cause last month.

Police said there were 225 accidents in June, down from 231 the month before.

There were a total of 104 accidents involving injury, marking a slight increase from June, 1991, when that number was 101.

Twenty-two people, out of the 126 injured, were seriously hurt, officers said.

During the same month last year, 123 people were injured.

911 REMINDER POL 911 reminder Police are reminding parents to teach children the proper use of the emergency number 911 as they have received several such calls from children playing at home.

Police community relations officer Sgt. Andrea Browne said that in some cases children are practising using the number.

"We are asking the parents to stress the importance of the proper use of this number and to reinforce the fact that this number should only be used in an emergency,'' Sgt. Browne said.

Police have also received several complaints about children swimming around ferry docks.

Sgt. Browne warned parents to make sure their children are swimming in safe areas, away from docks used by marine vessels.

VISITOR FINED CTS Visitor fined A 41-year-old American visitor was fined $1,200 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after she was caught with 10.3 grams of cannabis and drug equipment.

Michele Turner, of California, pleaded guilty to the offences when she appeared before Magistrate the Wor. John Judge.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said one pipe, two screens, a cigarette and the cannabis were found in Turner's bags by Customs officers when she arrived at the Civil Air Terminal on Tuesday.

Turner told the court she has a medical disorder that requires her to take large amounts of medication. She said she recently requested a higher dosage from her doctor, but was told that the drugs were highly addictive and that she should try to reduce her stress. She decided to use cannabis for this purpose, she explained.

Mr. Judge fined Turner $1,000 for possession of cannabis and $200 for the drug equipment.
