Bank of Butterfield personnel & training senior manager Mrs. Janet Nearon told the students at the bank's Student Expo `95 that bank president Mr. Michael Collier started his career as a teller.

The expo, held on December 28 at the Number One Shed on Front Street, attracted Bermudian college, university, and fifth-year high school students.

And it featured booths which represented various bank departments, including Retail, Marketing and Mortgages & Finance.

At the biennial event, which began in 1991, students were given the opportunity to talk with bank personnel about the different career choices available.

At the Retail Banking booth, students were told that being a teller can be the first step to other departments in the bank.

"The knowledge you gain by being a teller will help in any department,'' Retail Administrator Ms Lydia Saraiva added.

In addition to the booths, information about all the scholarships offered on the Island were also available at the expo.

And after touring the expo students were able to leave their resumes and job application forms. They were also given the opportunity to evaluate the expo.

"The expo was very informative,'' attendee Mr. Raymond Tannock said. "I was able to talk to people in the different departments to find out what it is really like.'' College student Miss Laquita Ebbin said: "I was able to learn what goes on in each department. The bank personnel were able to give me lots of information on the kind of background that was needed in their department.'' Miss Raquel Emery, who as a college student worked at the bank during the summer, said the expo gave her the opportunity to find out what happened in the departments she had not worked in.

Audie Franks, also a summer student, said he thought the expo was "beneficial to people who had questions about banking careers''.
